“ The food was amazing. Beautiful ambience, and most importantly A1 Service. I definitely will be back ”
“ My daughter decided on the Monkey King for her birthday, I was skeptical at first. When we arrived, it's sort of an odd setup. The bar is soon as you walk in and it appears larger than the eating area in the back, which is set up nicely with booths and tables. Our waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. She explained what the dishes were to us. She was funny at times. We had several dishes: Cumin Lamb was really good, a lil spicy, not enough meat on the bones . BBQ Ribs I'm told were really good, I would prefer them to be cooked a little bit more. Shrimp Toast was wasn't bad, I didn't like the sauce that came with it. Crispy Garlic Chicken was delicious and the white meat wasn't dry. The sauce was really good also Duck Fat Fried Rice was delicious. I love the String beans I didn't care for any of the dumplings, I'm not a dumpling kind of Gal . We ate family style and there was nothing left to take home. I think they need to have more than one dessert on the menu, everybody doesn't like strawberry. The cake was hard to cut into but it had a good taste . I would definitely recommend this pricey place, it was worth it. I took away a star because of the limited drink menu. ”
“ Best Asian food I had in a long time, the service was great, the ambiance was great. Now back to the food.. the fried dumplings were delicious untillll the shrimp toast came out.. omg so amazing. We also had the pepper steak, crab fried rice and the shrimp entre (I forgot the exact name). Everything is served family style so we had more for the next day. I can't wait to come here again. ”
“ This restaurant is a place to have on your must-visit list. I recommend making reservations in advance to make sure you don't miss out. The layout of the restaurant is edgy and modern with a sophisticated twist. As for the food, I was blown away! The duck is absolutely unforgettable. The combination of the bao bun with the duck was incredible; the flavors were perfectly balanced and left me wanting more. But if I'm being honest, the duck fried rice might just be the highlight of the meal--it was out of this world! Everything was actually! And that's just the beginning. The onions and cucumber chopped up on the side were great additions to elevate the dishes and add some crunch appeal. The hoisin sauce was my favorite, well because I am obsessed with it. The string beans were an expected delight, thanks to Sher's recommendation. I was planning to order them anyway, but her enthusiasm sealed the deal. I'm usually not a big tofu fan, but it was packed with flavor and complemented the string beans beautifully. I do feel like the duck was pricey for it to be a half portion of a duck. I am used to a whole duck for that price at places like Tao. I loved how everything was presented. It was like a work of art. The table felt like an influencers aesthetic. The drinks were also decent. Munzi was so welcoming and sher was such a cool waitress. Their service was top notch. Cant wait to be back!! ”
“ My first visit was for a Yelp event, which I enjoyed so much that I've been fiending to return. I'm so glad I did, because I had one hell of a dining experience. The Monkey King has it all: effortlessly chic decor, intimate lighting, relaxed yet polished vibes, great service, and deliciously well-executed dishes. Char siu - A scaled up version of the char siu and rice dishes I get from roast meat shops. It was juicy and went well with the ginger scallion sauce. I felt a little dirty paying so much for this when I can get a meal-sized portion for $8-ish, but tasty nevertheless. Cumin lamb ribs - Absurdly fall-off-the-bone tender. I could've used more of an infused spicy cumin flavor, but it was still delightful. Wok-fried string beans - These were perfectly seasoned with a nice crisp snap. I've long been a fan of smoked tofu, and it was put to good use here. Roasted duck-fat fried rice - I remember loving this during the event, and it held up. The duck flavor is so rich and prevalent. XO crab fried rice - Mmm mmm mmm. My favorite dish of the night. The crab flavor is infused in every morsel. They don't mess around with their fried rice options, whew. A must visit whenever I'm in Bushwick... which admittedly isn't often, but that might have to change! ”
“ This place is a must Hannah was a fantastic server the best I had there this far. She was engaging funny but over all a good server. Munzy & Harvey are always a pleasure to see and talk with them on the growth of the business. I still remember that yelp elite event and I have been coming here ever since. The menu has changed slightly but overall all the staples are there and still delicious and satisfying. The shrimp toast, pork loin, ribs and duck fried rice are my go to. Everything is always delicious and a good time. A+ ”
“ Great drinks, great food, cute little hidden spot in Brooklyn. Came here on a Sunday evening for dinner. Highly recommend making a reservation and we were able to make one for the same day, which worked out perfectly. Drinks were great, can't remember what we got, but didn't have any complaints! The decor and bar area are super cute inside as well What we got: - scallion pancakes - these were good but more fried than your standard but paired well with the rest of the food - crab cake shumai - great flavor and nice and creamy inside - fried oyster mushrooms - loved this, but I am biased and love mushrooms, overall cooked well and great flavor -double garlic eggplant - always love a vegetable dish cooked well with flavor and this hit the spot - duck-fat fried rice - very flavorful and well balanced, paired well with the rest of the dishes ”
“ Finally made my way here after having this place in my bookmarks for a few weeks! This establishment is pretty new, so when we walked in, the restaurant was just gorgeous, forest green velvet seating along the walls, and just overall gorgeous ambiance with the center focus being the bar. We met our waitress Hannah, she was just incredible, had all the best recommendations and accommodated our toddler (and even professed love by the end of the night lol!). While we definitely over-ordered for the 2.5 of us, we started with the oyster mushrooms, shrimp toast, and chicken dumplings. The oyster mushrooms were great, and the shrimp toast was *chefs kiss* with the dipping sauce. I thought the chicken dumplings were just ok, but my husband enjoyed them! For mains, we got chow fun, duck fried rice, eggplant, the and crispy garlic chicken. The star of the show for me was the chow fun, but that chicken was BEAUTIFUL. It's amazing how they got the flavour INSIDE the chicken and it just amplified with the crispy skin bite. I was so thoroughly impressed with some dishes, while some were just ~ok~. Overall - definitely worth a visit, and plus points for clean bathrooms, and a fabulous Hannah Hannah - if you read this - baby J definitely asked for you after we left!! ”
“ Very welcoming and warm as soon as we walked in, we were seated at the bar. Our party was unforgivably late and most places will not seat you until your full party arrive, we were promptly seated. Not only were we seated at the bar but the staff was extremely courteous about the late arrival. They informed us they would have to give away our table and they also informed us how to find another reservation quickly online to meet our late arrivals schedule (that's a first for me). Customer service is peak. It was my birthday (almost, kinda) and the drinks kept flowing. I loved it! This is family style eating, so if you and your party each order one entree, you will receive enough food for the whole table, and it will arrive in rounds. They explain all this to you and I believe it is in the menu. Which was cool because we all had an opportunity to taste one another's food. Scallion Pancakes smelled bright and tasted earthy with a hint of garlic. The shrimp toast was crispy and light. Parking is sketchy, but it's Williamsburg on a Friday night...you already know. Take an Uber. I love the music very contemporary, the hospitality, the food, the soft lightening, and the drinks. Everything here says "relax." ”
